President Halonen is representing Finland in the WHO Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development, which is an independent group comprised of former heads of sates and governments, heads of health, social care and financial institutions, leaders of the business community and life scientists and economics. There are 19 members in the Commission, drawing lessons from how different countries in the European regions have responded to the pandemic. Based on these lessons, the Commission makes suggestions on how health and social care systems should be developed to become more resilient towards future threats.
On March 16th the Commission published A call to action statement directed towards policy makers, economic and social stakeholders and international organizations. You can read the statement here.
The Commission’s work will culminate in a report to be published in September 2021.
